The National Assessment of Educational Progress

• The next testing window will be between January and March, 2009.
• Tests contain both multiple-choice and constructed–response items.
• Students use paper and pencil, manipulatives, calculators and science kits provided by NAEP.
• The test is administered by NAEP Field Staff in a single testing session (90 minutes).
• NAEP is designed to provide state and national, not local, results.

 

 

Who will participate in the NAEP 2009 Assessment?
The NAEP 2009 assessment will be administered in a small sample of schools in grades 4, 8 and 12 in reading, mathematics science, and the arts.

• Montana will host the NAEP assessment in 460 schools in 2009 in grades 4, 8, and 12.
• Subjects assessed will be Reading, Math, and Science, and results will apply both to state and national results.
• About 20,000 students in Montana schools are expected to participate in the assessment.

 

 

When will NAEP be administered?
January 22 – March 6, 2009. Dates will be provided to schools as they become available.

 

 

What are the end results of NAEP testing?

• NAEP produces a valid profile of student achievement in numerous sub-groupings for individual states and the nation as a whole.
• NAEP results are also used in conjunction with international testing to provide an estimate of relative standing of the U.S. in the world.  
• NAEP provides several powerful, publicly available online tools for the analysis and presentation of NAEP data.
