Indian Education Law Clinic

The University of Montana Indian Law Clinic in partnership with the Office of Public Instruction has created web-based professional development for teachers. The following presentations focus on Federal Indian Policy and Tribal Sovereignty and are approximately one hour in length. Each presentation ends with a short quiz. At the completion of the quiz, participants will be eligible to receive OPI renewal units. If educators have questions relating to the content of the presentations, questions may be directed to the U of M Indian Law Clinic on the last Tuesday of each month between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The contact information and instructions will follow each presentation.

Indian Education Leadership Training

Administrators and teachers interested in course offered through the University of Montana, C & I 595, (6 credit online course; 2 semesters) can find more information and registration forms on the Regional Learning Project website at this link: http://www.regionallearningproject.org/newcourse/main.html External Link   SAM (School administrators of Montana) sent out an email on their listserv which you may have seen recently, about this course.  Also informational sessions were presented at various SAM events this spring.

Enrolling now through July 15.  The summer institute is August 13-14, with travel to the Billings area on the 12th. Fall and Spring semesters are online.

The successful model according to the first year evaluation of this course occurs when a district is represented by a team including administration, teachers, and if possible, librarian.  School districts are funding the course from Indian Ed allocations, and participants pay their own course credit fees ($135/semester) for the 6 graduate level credits.

This course is an excellent opportunity to expand IEFA capacity in your district.
