Welcome

Welcome to an exciting new era in Montana Indian Education. It is a significant moment in history that provides an opportunity for each of us to participate in the creation of a progressive and successful model of Indian Education. Other states are looking to Montana as a leader in these efforts as we strive to make the promise of Indian Education for All a reality, and as we work to ensure that Indian students are offered an opportunity for a quality education.

It will take all of us, working together to create this paradigm of success. The Office of Public Instruction Indian Education Division works, with these goals in mind, in two primary areas: (1) implementing Indian Education for All and (2) closing the American Indian achievement gap. This website includes an abundance of information on both issues and will be frequently updated with new and important information, so check back often.

The Office of Public Instruction thanks you – the teachers, administrators, school boards, parents, and students – for working diligently on Indian Education issues. It is time to come together with a common vision. It is time to put our minds together and see what difference we can make for all of Montana's students.

When we look back in a few years at all of the work we did to make sure that Indian Education for All was implemented statewide and that our American Indian students achieved at levels that compete with their peers, Montana will be a place of respect, of honor, of dignity, for all of its citizens.
