Biography
Linda McCulloch is in her second term as Montana’s
State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Throughout her career, Linda has been an energetic
and determined advocate for children. As a teacher and
former legislator, she is committed to ensuring a quality
education in Montana. Her priorities include: making
sure every child in Montana can read, reducing school
dropout, supporting Indian Education for All,
and improving services and funding to schools
As State Superintendent, Linda is leading the way on
these important issues. Under her leadership, she created
Montana READ!, a statewide reading initiative, convening
three statewide summits. She oversaw the effective use
of technology to strengthen the Office of Public Instruction
services and communication with schools and the public.
Her accomplishments include leading successful efforts
to obtain more than $80 million in competitive grants
that support for services to schools, such as reading,
and school drop out prevention. She championed legislation
to create an honorary high school diploma program for
WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans that left school to
serve our country. She is recognized nationally for
her rural education advocacy regarding the No Child
Left Behind federal law
Linda holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in Elementary Education
with an emphasis in Supervision of Library Media Programs
from the University of Montana. Linda McCulloch has
been in education since 1978, teaching in schools across
Montana, including Ashland, Missoula, and Bonner. Linda
served three terms in the Montana House of Representatives,
from 1995 to 2001. As a legislator, she served on the
Judiciary, Highways & Transportation, Local Government,
Education and House Rules Committees, and interim Committee
assignments included Juvenile Justice & Mental Health,
Indian Affairs, and Education & Local Government.
In 1999, she served as the Minority Caucus Leader.
From
1995 to 2000, Linda McCulloch has been a Faculty Affiliate
at the University of Montana and a recipient of the
Mike and Maureen Mansfield Library Scholarship. In
her
constitutional capacity, Linda serves on the Board
of Public Education, Board of Regents, Montana Library
Commission and Land Board. She also serves as a board
member for Northwest Regional Educational Laboratories,
MT Heritage Project, and the Montana Professional Teaching
Foundation. She
is active in community and civic organizations.
Linda McCulloch was born December 21, 1954. She has
been married to Bill McCulloch since 1978.
