Math and Reading Grade Level Learning Expectations for Grades 3-8 10 and Upon Graduation
In the fall of 2002 the Office of Public Instruction facilitated a process that extended and refined grade level expectations for grades 3. 4. 5. 6. 7, 8, 10 and Upon Graduation for reading and mathematics. These expectations were necessary to meet federal requirements under NCLB and for the development of the customized criterion referenced test from Measured Progress. The Office of Public Instruction brought together some original members of the reading and mathematics writing teams and invited other district educators to participate in the review and extension of the grade level expectations.

This chart provides everyone the opportunity to see, on one page, all the content standards that all students in Montana School districts are expected to know and be able to do.

Standards Integration Charts

Montana educators reviewed the content and performance standards, finding logical overlaps from content area to content area. These charts illustrate the "implicit" and "explicit" overlaps in the standards. An "explicit" overlap indicates that a teacher will naturally cover both standards within a single teaching activity because the concepts are closely related. An "implicit" overlap indicates that a teacher could very easily teach both standards within a single teaching activity.
