Summer Reading Challenge
It's almost the end of the school year and Superintendent Denise Juneau issues a challenge to all Montana students. She is asking them to read six books over the course of the summer as part of her Summer Six Reading Challenge. Students who read during the school break have a much better chance of starting school in the fall ready to learn.
[Take the challenge yourself! (Sorry, you won't be eligible for prizes, however ...) Suggestions include the list of excellent books that are the foundation of the OPI IEFA language arts units: IEFA Curriculum Resources
SIX WAYS YOU CAN HELP PUT SIX BOOKS IN STUDENTS' HANDS:
Encourage kids you know to sign up on the OPI website to take the challenge. They'll be eligible for great prizes at the end of the summer. Check out http://opi.mt.gov/read6books.

Let students check out books over the summer.
Open the school library one or two days each
month in June, July and August.
Create your own bookmobile or book-mo-bike.
Bring books to summer lunch programs.
Partner with summer activity programs to
distribute free books.
Encourage parents and students to participate in
the public library summer reading program.
