Indian Education Established 2006

Grants Just Released

by Julie Saylor

Public school districts or a consortium of public schools are eligible to apply to the OPI's Indian Education For All Division for IEFA Progressive Grants.

The goal of this grant is to promote sustainable Indian Education for All (IEFA) implementation efforts in Montana school districts. Grant recipients will receive differentiated support to progress toward the development of a comprehensive IEFA plan sustainable by regular funding and staff. Each district will develop grant activities appropriate to the level of readiness identified in a pre-survey as novice, nearing proficiency, or proficient.

A Comprehensive IEFA Plan will be developed by grant recipients demonstrating a level of "Proficient." While completion of the Comprehensive IEFA Plan is not a required outcome of every grant project, activities of grant projects for all readiness levels must increase the district's readiness to develop the components of the Comprehensive IEFA Plan.

Grant awards are available in a range of approximately $1,000 to $25,000 for each project. Approximately 15 grants will be awarded. Progressive grants will involve a developmental grant process over two project years.
