State Superintendent honors Great Falls Lincoln Elementary School

Monday, December 3, 2012, 9:31 am

On November 26, Superintendent Juneau attended a celebration at Lincoln Elementary School acknowledging their national Blue Ribbon School award. It is the third elementary school in Great Falls chosen for this honor from the U.S. Department of Education. Chief Joseph and Meadow Lark elementary schools were both previously named Blue Ribbon winners. Other Montana schools who received the Blue Ribbon award this past year include Columbus High School and Montana City Elementary School.

The Blue Ribbon Schools program honors elementary and secondary schools that made significant progress in closing the achievement gap or whose students achieve at very high levels. All three Montana schools were nominated in the Exemplary High Performing School category. "High performing" means (a) that the achievement of the school’s students in the most recent year tested places the school among the highest performing schools in the state on state assessments of reading and mathematics, and (b) disaggregated results for student subgroups, including students from disadvantaged backgrounds, must be similar to the results for all students tested.
