US Census Day -- April 1, 2010Monday, March 1, 2010, 10:14 am
Please help our schools get their fair share by encouraging people in your community to participate in the Census. The Census collects important general information about all those residing in the U.S. on Census Day -- April 1, 2010. During the 2000 Census, as a state Montana ranked 44th out of 50 in its undercount, and we must do better this time. Answering the 2010 Census is an easy way school staff and parents can help your school and community. Census data affect the amount of federal funding Montana receives for programs that impact our lives. We can expect to receive about $4,000 in federal funding over the next 10 years for every person who is counted in the census, a funding boost which is vital for the state's economy and service provision. Federal education grant programs like Title I, Special Education, Rural Education Achievement, and Improving Teacher Quality are funded to states and school districts based on Census counts. In 2008 alone, these grants brought over $80 million to Montana for our educational system. For more information please visit: http://www.2010.census.mt.gov/.
