Farm to School Census

Monday, November 25, 2013, 11:49 am

Check out the latest USDA Farm to School Census at http://www.fns.usda.gov/farmtoschool/census.

Of the Montana schools that submitted information for the Census, 37% are participating in farm to school activities. USDA estimates that local purchases in our state are valued at approximately $956,304!

For some school districts, the information is incomplete or missing. If you completed the Census questionnaire this spring, please check your school district’s record and submit any changes to Matt Benson at matthew.benson@fns.usda.gov. To find your school, start at our state summary page http://www.fns.usda.gov/farmtoschool/census#/state/mt and then click on the “Explore State Districts” button at either the top or bottom of the state summary page. Once on the list of school districts, you can sort by alphabetical order or search for a specific district using the search box.

Let’s use the next few weeks to boost the number of schools represented in the Census. Schools that do not have current Farm to School or school garden efforts are equally encouraged to submit the information so we can have the most accurate picture possible. It is so exciting to see how extensively Farm to School has taken root in Montana!
