High School Seat Belt Surveys – Who’s buckled? We want to know!

Friday, August 30, 2013, 1:19 pm

Seat belt surveys are being conducted by schools participating in the Buckle Up Signs for Montana Schools Campaign.  Surveys need to be completed during the month of September.   Conduct the pre-survey of seat belt use before the signs are installed, then after the signs have been up for a while conduct the post-survey. Send surveys to the OPI by September 27, 2013. If you are not able to get the post-survey done by late September, please conduct the survey on or before Montana Teen Driver Safety Day, Tuesday, October 15.

Only 51.2 per cent of Montana high school students report always wearing a seat belt while driving and 47.8 per cent when riding in a car according to the 2013 YRBS.  Seat belts save lives and Montana law requires all occupants to be buckled up – every trip and every time. If your school has not yet ordered Buckle Up signs, please visit the Traffic Education home page, read about the Buckle Up Signs for Montana Schools Campaign, then download the order form and fax or mail it to the OPI.
