Montana Made school fundraising

Monday, February 4, 2013, 11:49 am

Schools rely on fundraising activities to supplement school budgets and pay for equipment, materials, supplies and events.  Unfortunately, school fundraisers often involve the sale of unhealthy foods.  School fundraising provides an opportunity to support local agricultural producers while increasing children’s exposure to healthy locally grown food products.

The Harvest Montana Fundraiser is a model local food school fundraising program, developed in 2008 by Montana Team Nutrition Program. In fall 2011 as part of a pilot program, Montana Team Nutrition Program staff provided guidance to the Madison-Jefferson 4-H Program to organize the Harvest Montana Fundraiser for their clubs. The Harvest Montana Fundraiser 4-H Pilot Program Final Report is now available along with the Harvest Montana Fundraiser How-to Guide and sample materials such as brochures, order forms, press releases, etc. These resources are available for download online at: http://opi.mt.gov/Farm2SchoolFundRaising
