School Food Safety Inspections 2010-11Monday, November 28, 2011, 1:23 pm
The National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program require two food safety inspections of school cafeterias each year. In the 2010-11 school year, 467 schools met the two inspection requirement, while 269 schools had one inspection and eighty-eight had zero inspections.
Overall there has been a seven percent increase from 2009-10 in the number of schools who did not receive any food safety inspection. Schools are encouraged to continue working toward the goal of two inspections a year. If a sanitation inspection has not been conducted or your school district has only participated in one inspection, please contact your county sanitarian. A sample letter requesting inspection is located at http://www.opi.mt.gov/pdf/schoolfood/haccp/Requestinspection.pdf
