Teacher of the Year Award to Bonnie Boggs, a fifth-grade teacher at Garfield Elementary School in
Miles City.

Superintendent Denise Juneau, State Leaders to Present History Teacher of the Year Award

HELENA, Mont. On Monday, November, 9, Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau
will present the 20th Montana Statehood Centennial Bell Award to Montana History Teacher of the Year
Bonnie Boggs, a fifth-grade teacher at Garfield Elementary School in Miles City.

"It is so important to recognize and honor the educators who give our kids a deeper understanding of
our history to best prepare them to shape our future," said Juneau.

Boggs, who grew up on the Blackfeet reservation, has been a teacher for 37 years. She graduated from
Browning High School and received a degree in elementary education from Northern Montana College in
Havre.

Boggs and her students will be honored at a public ceremony at the State Capitol during which she
will ring the Montana Statehood Centennial Bell, a tradition that marks each Statehood Day, which
falls on November 9 this year.

Juneau said, "The hard work and innovation happening in Montana's classrooms ensures that all
students are able to meet today's challenges and tomorrow's opportunities. I am proud of all of our
students and teachers, and I'm especially proud to have the opportunity to honor the recipient of
the 2009 Centennial Bell Award."

Where:  East Balcony overlooking the rotunda by the Centennial Bell, Montana Capitol, Helena

The public is cordially invited to attend the award ceremony. Since 1990, the Montana Statehood
Centennial Bell is rung every Statehood Day (Nov. 8 except when Nov 8 falls on a weekend.
