Greetings from Denise Juneau:
The meth problem did not begin in schools, but schools can play a very effective part in the solution.
Prevention education can make a big difference for Montana kids. For that reason I am pleased to present “Tools for Schools”, an important educational resource to help prevent methamphetamine use. Through a partnership with Attorney General Mike McGrath, we have created these powerful tools that use a positive youth development model to teach our kids key messages about their health and their future –without meth in their lives.
This compact disc contains ten modules, each with a lesson plan, teaching tips, additional optional activities, and resources to help increase your students, knowledge about meth. Each module is designed to be presented in less than 30 minutes and can be integrated into a variety of classroom or group settings. And – they are designed to be presented by teachers who may not be content experts.
Four modules are provided for grades 6 through 8, and six modules are appropriate for high school students. To assure that the material appeals to students and meets educator’s needs, each section was reviewed by an advisory council that represented a broad spectrum of teachers, students, substance abuse specialists, parents and community members.
In this highly technical world, we are all getting more comfortable
using methods such as Power Point. For those more novice users, equipment
requirements and basic instructions are included in the disc case and
within each lesson plan. If you have problems working with this program,
please call the OPI Help Desk at 444-3448 and they will provide individual
assistance. And remember, my office also provides renovated computers,
free of charge, for those of you with older equipment. Contact Scott
Buswell at 495-9695 and he will do his best to meet your needs.
Thank you for all you do to help prepare Montana’s kids for healthy and productive lives.
Warm Regards,
Denise Juneau
