Montana Association of Teachers of English Language Arts
Policy on Diversity and Inclusiveness
It is the policy of the Montana Association of Teachers of English Language Arts (MATELA) to recognize, honor, and facilitate the contributions of the diverse people who make up Montana's distinctive population and to actively involve and encourage diversity in MATELA's membership and activities. To these ends:
- MATELA will seek to achieve the diversity in its membership that reflects the diversity of this state and this nation;
- MATELA will actively encourage diversity on its executive board, in its conference themes and presenters, through its scholarship allotments and selections, and through collaborative efforts with other groups;
- MATELA will visibly and vigilantly adhere to and defend the mandate of Montana's Constitution that the unique culture of Montana's Native Americans be recognized and preserved; and
- MATELA will devise, support, and reward efforts to make Montana's school children aware of the breadth of their heritage and the particular richness that diversity brings to "the Treasure State."
